The Official RedFlagDeals.com Blog

We’ve created an official blog for RedFlagDeals.com.  Our hope is that it will give us an interesting new way to interact with our community.  Take a look.

Digg – The Aftermath

It’s now been a little over a week since we hit the Digg frontpage and we’re still seeing around 1000 visitors a day from Digg.  The Best Buy warranty fiasco story ended up getting over 5300 diggs and brought about 70,000 visitors to RedFlagDeals.com during the first day.  The attention the story garnered brought a quick response from Best Buy and they replaced the disgruntled user’s broken TV within 24 hours of the story hitting Digg.  This resolution ended up getting Dugg as well and drew an additional 30,000 visitors to our site.

As you’ve probably heard about Digg traffic, Digg users tend to visit, glance at a page and leave.  Of the 100,000 visitors Digg sent, about 10% were from Canada.  The Canadians tended to look at about 2x as many pages as their American counterparts (1.5 PPV vs 3 PPV).

We also ended up on Reddit which brought about 1/20 of the traffic as Digg.  Their users were very close to Digg’s in their geographic breakdown and pageviewing habits.

All in all it made for an exciting couple of days.  Our servers held up well and we didn’t have much of the negative commenting etc that often comes from exposure on Digg.  Although much of the traffic wasn’t particularly useful for us, the incoming links are valuable and many of the Canadian users seem to be returning.
