Well this is my 3rd post in 3 months, so I apologize. Hopefully someone still has me in their feed reader.
The last 6 months have been very crazy. We redesigned and relaunched RedFlagDeals.com and survived the Back to School-RedFlagDeals.com 6th Anniversary-Christmas-Boxing Day blitz. We did better than surviving really: Boxing Day was amazing this year. We arranged to have many of the in-demand Boxing Day flyers early and ended up getting tons of traffic as a result. I even had my second story promoted to the front page of Digg.com.
Now that January is here, we’ve had time to plan for 2007 and work on smaller projects that had to be pushed to the side during Q4. Over the last week we’ve created a number of new sections on RedFlagDeals.com: we divided the Apparel deals section into Men’s Apparel Deals and Women’s Apparel Deals, we created an Apparel Buy, Sell, and Trade forum, and created a Shopping Discussion forum (to discuss retailers and their policies) after a similar forum was popular during Boxing Week. We have a few more additions in the pipe for the next 2 weeks or so.
Some of those may not seem significant, but my expansion strategy has been to let demand build for a new section organically before launching. I really hate dead sections/forums. It’s been really interesting to see how our audience has developed and grown over the last 6 years. Even a couple of years ago, adding sections for apparel wouldn’t have made sense.
Speaking of additions, those who have visited our office know that it was a little barren, so when Al from BubbleShare offered to sell us the contents of his office at a good price, we jumped at the offer. (Al sold his company to Kaboose last month.) So we have a lot of new furniture and what we can’t use is being donated to the Indoor Playground Centre for Innovation.
